They say time flies when you’re having fun. Can you
believe that it’s October already? This year is flying by,
but I’m not too sure most of us are having too much fun.
Oprah being sued, OJ was found guilty, the FBI say Evel
Keival was a bad guy, and they are talking of an Indiana
Jones 5. We have a lot going on in our lives right now. Did
I forget to mention the train wreck of a presidential
election, plunging national economy, and overall sense
hopelessness sweeping through our country? Personally
this OJ thing is what has me up at nights.

The world of the internet has allowed virtually everybody
access to discussion boards and access to every detail
imaginable for microscopic examination of any subject of
interest. Most people want to know what is going to
happen to the CEO that caused the financial crisis we are
facing. The official government word is that the complexity
of the cases means that it will be several years if ever
before anything is done. All I have to say is this, if it was
the Senate and Congressional retirement and benefits
fund that disappeared overnight, I would put money on the
fact that some people wound be on trial within a few weeks.

Alas, that is not the case, so we the general public, must
sit back and want the movie that we call our life unfold in
front of us with the unexpected twist and turns of a
Tarantino movie on a good sugar and caffeine buzz.
Maybe it is time for the powers that be to be sent a
message to let them feel some of the frustrations we feel. I
want to see all the “for the people/time for a change”
members of Congress and the Senate be forced as part of
their “orientation” to live in the states they represent in for
two months working a job for the minimum wage the they
say is adequate as their only source of income. Give them
only basic HMO medical coverage that they have to pay
for out of that money, and even throw in a couple kids to
support and day care costs on top of it and see how they
handle it. Strip them of their mansions, drivers, personal
assistants, and $5000 suits, and send them to wal-mart for
the weekly groceries. How do we expect people who have
never lived the kind of live that the majority of the country
lives to properly represent us?

I would like to issue a personal challenge to all of the
members of Senate and Congress that are elected this
year. Show the people that you are there to make a
change and you do care for the people. Sixty days is all it
would take. Take some time out of your life to take a step
in “the peoples” shoes that you supposedly “represent”.

My email address is ahudson@richmondlifemagazine.com.

I will keep you posted if any of them take me up on this
challenge.
